Expect a night when sound and vision collide in an atmosphere where anything can happen when Scapes and Shapes returns this summer.
The concept behind Scapes and Shapes is quite simple: pair a visual artist with a sound designer or musician, and with no prearranged agenda, spend 20 minutes creating an impromptu work of art that complements a sound piece also composed on the spot.
This edition’s Scapes and Shapes lineup features the following:
Abstract painter Tim Rechner—whose works have previously graced the walls of such spots as the Art Gallery of Alberta and Latitude 53—paired with SHEARS, an experimental duo consisting of Colton Hutchinson and Cam McLean.
Surreal landscape visual artist Dave Shkolny—who’s enjoyed several exhibitions of his art across Alberta—in tandem with Wayne DeFehr, a composer who’s created works for theatre, film and video games.
Multimedia artist Will Truchon, a former artistic director of The Works, teaming up with kirmeve, aka folk performer and journalist Paula Kirman.
Since 2020, Scapes and Shapes has been a primary showcase of improvisational visual art and music at Collins Studio Gallery, pairing artists of both disciplines to create unique and unexpected experiences and works of art.
Admission to Scapes and Shapes is based on a $5-$15 sliding scale.
