Three local acts explore the century-old avant-garde concept of musique concrѐte at Collins Studio Gallery. Tackling this relatively unknown concept that night will be local artists SinData (the duo of Will Northlich-Redmond and Nico Arnaez), Jacob Audrey Taves and Matthew McKenzie, and Ghast // Tech (aka Chris Lacroix).
Predating the practice of music sampling by decades, musique concrѐte derives its sounds from recorded raw source material, which would be processed through tape manipulation by pioneers that included Pierre Schaeffer, Halim El-Dabh and Pierre Henri. Over the years, effects technology triggered a greater output of musique concrѐte works, with elements of the practice adopted by the likes of The Beatles, Public Enemy, and Frank Zappa.
