Jimmy Golden
A Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings, Drawings and Prints
5 September – 30 September 2022
Jimmy Golden has been exhibiting his artwork since 1978 in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto.
Golden’s paintings and artworks are a result of his studies and dedication to Taoist philosophy and Oriental calligraphy. Through those studies Golden takes notice of the infinite natural opposites that make up this world – day/night, hot/cold, sweet/savory, etc. When he picks up a brush and paint these opposites emerge in shapes and colours. Golden tells us, “The interplay of colour is like chemistry. Each new colour added to a painting calls for a response, and each colour changes the “chemistry” of the field. I do not plan the abstract field paintings, I simply begin, and respond as the painting appears before me. It becomes pure meditation.”
The retrospective exhibition contains work created from 1979 on. Golden says he considers it a privilege to be a part of Edmonton's art community, and Collins Studio Gallery considers it a privilege to be able to present these works to the public.
